Garda Frauds: Fake Police Calls Targeting Hotels and Businesses

They pretend to be Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines associated with the armed forces.

These are not military personnel but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

Recognizing frauds

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they seek money, cease to appear.
