Garda Fraudsters Pose as Carabinieri in Phone Scams Targeting Local Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, proposing subscriptions to magazines of the armed forces.

These are not military personnel but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, police, fire brigade, or municipal police.

How to Recognize Scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to the law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,
