Garda Golf Hosts Palio del Chiaretto Awards and Competition
During the gala evening at the Gardagolf Country Club in Soiano, diplomas were awarded to the representatives of the twenty wineries participating this year in the «Palio del Chiaretto», and the names of the nine companies that received the «excellent» rating were announced: Cantine Berardi Angelo e Fratelli of Molinetto di Mazzano, Marangona of Pozzolengo, of Valtenesi and Lugana of Moniga, Fratelli Turina of Moniga, Fratelli Scolari of Raffa di Puegnago, and the agricultural companies: Emilio Zuliani of Padenghe, Taver di Bocchio Giuseppe of Manerba, La Torre of Attilio Pasini of Mocasina, Monte Cicogna of Materossi in Moniga.
Results and Judges of the Selection
In essence, this is the outcome of selecting the finest Chiaretti from the last harvest, carried out by a panel composed of sommeliers, Tasting experts Onav, enology technicians, presided over by Corrado Cugnasco. The Chiaretti produced by the nine companies that achieved «excellent» qualify now for the «Pompeo Molmenti» trophy, which will be awarded to the wine earning the highest overall score after four different tastings, including one conducted by six members of the Castellani del Chiaretto commission.
One tasting will take place in Ravello, in the province of Salerno; another in the Canton Ticino, at the «City of Wine» in Bellinzona; then, in the verdian locations in the province of Parma, where the Chiaretti will be paired with the verdian menu offered by the restaurant «Cavallino Bianco», on the occasion of the centenary of the passing of maestro Giuseppe Verdi.
Organization and Objectives
The «Palio del Chiaretto» event, linked to the «Pompeo Molmenti» trophy, is organized by the Consorzio Garda Classico, in agreement with the Ente Vini Bresciani, and the Municipal Administration of Moniga, to valorizare the higher quality Chiaretto wines, promoting awareness of them, and thereby encouraging all producers to improve this particular wine of the Valtenesi.
During the evening, the importance of the Palio was highlighted by Massimo Pollini, mayor of Moniga; Sandro Redaelli De Zinis, president of the Consorzio Garda Classico; and Maurizio Banzola, president of the Ente Vini Bresciani. Also present were: Emilio Alberto Pancera, president of the Ente Vini Bresciani; Francesco Ferrari, president of Coldiretti Brescia; Gianfranco Comincioli, board member of the Chamber of Commerce; Giampietro Avanzi, president of the Brescia wine companies; and mayors and public administrators from the Valtenesi municipalities, the land where the Chiaretto wine was «invented», by the Senator of the Kingdom Pompeo Molmenti. In 1896, in the winery now at Villa Bertanzi in Moniga, he tested a particular vinification process using grapes from Groppello, Marzemino, Sangiovese, and Barbera vineyards.
