Garda Lake Levels Drop: Authorities Call for Regional Involvement

The mayor, Parolari, has no doubt: the lake level should not be solely the prerogative of the farmers of Mantova.

The Gardesan municipalities should also have a say. He announced this while presenting the latest data in the city council meeting.

The lake level dropped yesterday to an average of 144 cm. This is thanks to the outflow into the Mincio River of 190 cubic meters per second (equivalent to 16.5 million cubic meters per day).

Thus, the level went from 174 meters on November 23 to 144 centimeters yesterday: a decrease of 30 cm, averaging 1.7 centimeters per day.

Trend and causes of the decline

In the first ten days of December, with mild weather, the lake decreased by exactly 2 cm per day. The difference of 100 cubic meters per second between outflow and inflow should have caused a decline of 2.5 cm daily.

If this did not happen entirely, it is due to other unquantified inflows, such as runoff from slopes and groundwater waters.
