Garda Photo 2023 Features Italian Photo Experts at Villa degli Albertini
The gates of the park at the splendid villa dei conti degli Albertini, which resembles a castle, just outside the town, in the direction of Punta San Vigilio, open once again for photography. This happened a year ago, and it is happening again today, September 7, and tomorrow, September 8, for the final two events of the second edition of Garda Photo, the photographic audiovisual review organized by fotoclub Lo Scatto with the patronage of the municipal administration, the Province, the Region, the Pro loco, and the hotelier association.
The previous evenings of this photographic marathon, which began in May, took place in the courtyard of the new municipality building. The grand finale, however, returns to see the audience in the alley surrounded by centuries-old magnolias, facing the elegant facade of the palace.
Guest speakers and event details
Two prominent figures from the Italian photographic multivision sector will be featured: the Bologna-based Luciano Bovina and Reggio Emilia’s Ivano Bolondi. Both screenings will start at 9:15 p.m.: attendance is free. If it rains, the event will move to the congress hall.
Bovina has worked on automotive photography and marine images (including work aboard an oceanographic vessel) and has produced around thirty television documentaries. His portfolio includes photographic and film reportage from about sixty countries: some of the most interesting involve daily life on trains in South America, the Waorani tribe in the Amazon, Wodaabe nomads in Niger-Chad, and the work inside a hellish silver mine in Bolivia.
Garda Photo 2001 photographic presentations
At Garda Photo 2001, a reportage dedicated to New Zealand is presented. It’s titled «New Zealand, moments and memories». Those interested in a preview of some images can visit the website www.lucianobovina.com.
Bolondi is the artistic director of both Lo Scatto’s summer events: Garda Photo, of course, and the Torri Photographic Summer. Awarded in numerous photographic competitions, author of several photographic volumes, he has exhibited not only in Italy but also in France, Japan, and the United States.
He is regarded as one of the international masters of the diaporama, the term used for slide shows set to music and text. On Sunday evening at Garda, he will showcase two works, both extensively representing his artistic sensibility. They are «Tribes», dedicated to the environment and people of New Guinea, and «We of the Never Never», an excellent reportage on the traditions and myths of Aboriginal populations in Australia, almost following the footsteps of Bruce Chatwin, a writer-traveler.
Charitable purpose and aims of the event
Garda Photo, which benefits from the recognition of Fiaf (Federation of Italian Photographic Associations), also has a charitable goal: as with the Torresan Photographic Summer, the photo enthusiasts of Lo Scatto wanted to promote the work of Abeo, the association supporting children with hemophilic-oncological conditions. They received strong support from the invited authors of both events.
