Garda Police Impersonators Target Business Owners in Regional Scam

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda regions, offering subscriptions to the force’s magazines.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, ordinary police, fire brigade, or Comune (Municipal Police).

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement.

Therefore, beware and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have fallen victim to individuals who,

after obtaining money, disappear and no longer appear.
