Garda Region Scam: Fake Police Calls Target Hospitality Staff

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda region, offering subscriptions to the forces’ magazines.

These individuals are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance, police, fire brigade, or the City guards.

How to Recognize Scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, after obtaining money, disappears.
