Garda Scam Alert: Fake Police Calls Offered Nonexistent Magazine Subscriptions

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to the army‘s magazines.

They are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance, police, fire brigade, or Comune (municipal) police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately alert the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they ask for money, will disappear without trace.
