Garda Scam Alert: Fake Police Calls Targeting Businesses

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda regions, offering subscriptions to police-related magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to be affiliated with the finance department, police, fire brigade, or the Comune fire department.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately inform the genuine Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you are being targeted by individuals who,

if they have taken money, do not show up again.
