Garda Scam Alert: Fake Police Calls Targeting Hoteliers and Shops

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda, proposing subscriptions to the armed forces‘ magazines.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire department, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize the scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

asks for money, disappears without a trace.
