These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, police, fire brigade, or municipal guards (Vigili del Fuoco or Vigili Urbani).

How to recognize fraud

They often suggest subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement (le forze dell’ordine).

Therefore, be alert and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you are being targeted by someone who,

if they have money, might disappear from sight.
