Garda Scammers Impersonate Authorities to Target Local Business Owners

They impersonate Carabinieri when making telephone contact with hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to army magazines.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance authorities, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize the scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to the law enforcement.

Therefore, beware and immediately alert the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, if asked for money, disappears.
