Garda Scammers Impersonate Authorities to Trick Hoteliers and Shop Owners

They impersonate carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the middle and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

They are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

So, be cautious and immediately alert the carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

once they have received the money, disappear without a trace.
