Garda Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Trick Hoteliers and Shop Owners

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the middle and upper Garda areas, offering magazine subscriptions related to the armed forces.

These individuals are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, police, fire brigade, or municipal police authorities.

Beware of scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have no connection to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect someone is targeting you,

especially if, after collecting money, they disappear without a trace.
