Garda Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Trick Hoteliers and Shopkeepers

They pose as carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the middle and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to financial authorities, police, fire brigade, or municipal police.

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately contact the carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

after receiving the money, disappears without a trace.
