Garda Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Trick Local Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering magazine subscriptions for the force.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to be part of the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal guards.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

So, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect being targeted by individuals who, after obtaining the money, disappear.
