Garda Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Trick Local Businesses

They pretend to be Carabinieri when making telephone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda regions, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the financial police, the police, the fire brigade, or the town guards.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often offer subscriptions to non-existent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

So, be vigilant and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri – simply dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, after taking the money, disappears.
