Garda Scammers Impersonate Police to Issue Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurant owners in the middle and upper Garda area, proposing subscriptions to magazines of the Arma.

They are not military personnel but scammers who, each time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire department, or the municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to respond

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement.

So be cautious and immediately notify the carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

after receiving the money, disappears.
