Garda Scammers Pose as Carabinieri to Trick Businesses in Phone Calls

They pretend to be Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda regions, offering subscriptions to army publications.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, police, fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to Recognize the Scams

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications unrelated to law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by someone who,

seeking money, no longer shows themselves in person.
