Garda Scammers Pose as Carabinieri to Trick Hoteliers and Shops

They pretend to be carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the middle and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, police, fire brigade, or municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to react

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect being targeted by someone who, after receiving the money, disappears.
