Garda Scammers Pose as Police, Targeting Local Business Owners
They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda region, proposing subscriptions to magazines of the force.
These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.
Recognizing the scams
They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.
Therefore, be cautious and immediately alert the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
if they had money, no longer shows themselves.
