The Garda Street Parade livened up Desenzano del Garda on the afternoon of Saturday, April 20th. The event, organized by Collettivo Gardesano Autonomo, Smash Repression, and Collettivo Onda Studentesca, attracted hundreds of young people from across the province.

However, the enthusiasm generated by the demonstration caused heavy repercussions on the city’s traffic. Long queues and delays occurred along the main roads, exacerbated by the large influx of tourists in the area during the weekend.

The parade wound its way through the streets of Desenzano, starting from the train station at 4 pm. The route included crossings of Cavour, Marconi, Dal Molin, Allende, Michelangelo, and Dugazze streets, until reaching Spiaggia d’Oro. The floats were accompanied by techno, goa, psytrance, and reggae dub music.

The organizers of the event expressed their motivation behind the demonstration: the need to create free and open spaces where people can socialize without having to pay or be controlled. In an increasingly individualistic and lacking in self-managed gathering places, the organizers call for greater attention to fundamental rights such as dignified work, more affordable housing, and better public services.
