The Garda Trentino Trail is preparing for an unprecedented ninth edition. Between Friday, May 17 and Sunday, May 19, over 1,700 athletes from 30 different countries will take part in the five distances of the event. The event will begin at the Prato della Lizza of the Arco Castle with the start of the Extra formula, scheduled for Friday at 12:30.

The Garda Trentino Trail offers five different distances for participants. The GTT Extra, with a 150 km route and a 10,000-meter elevation gain, will take athletes through the peaks surrounding Lake Garda and the Valle di Ledro, with passages over 2,000 meters on Monte Stivo and Monte Altissimo. Saturday will see the three classic distances of the Garda Trentino Trail: the Garda Trentino Trail, a 62 km route with a 3,800-meter elevation gain starting in Riva del Garda at 8:00 am; the Ledro Trail, a 44 km route with a 2,400-meter elevation gain starting in Pieve di Ledro at 10:30 am; and the Tenno Trail, a 30 km route starting in Arco at 11 am. On Sunday morning, the fifth edition of the Garda Trentino Run, a shorter but intense 11 km route with a 600-meter elevation gain around Arco, will take place.

The Garda Trentino Trail edition features the participation of high-level athletes. Among them is Andreas Reiterer from South Tyrol, vice world champion in trail running in 2023, who will take part in the Ledro Trail. The main race will see big names competing, such as Swedish runner Petter Restorp, winner of the first edition of the GTT Extra, along with teammates from Team LaSportiva Georg Piazza, Roberto Mastrotto, and others. In the women’s category, Sabrina Verjee from Team LaSportiva stands out. Local athletes like Christian Modena (Team Salomon) and Alessia Scaini (Valchiese – Asics Italia) will also be protagonists in the various distances of the event.

Due to a landslide that interrupted the SS 240 road near Mezzolago last February, the Ledro Trail route has undergone significant changes. With the partial reopening of the road, the organizers have decided to move the start to Pieve di Ledro to minimize the impact on local traffic. Participants will ascend from the Ledro shore towards the Dromaè barns, where they will join the main route of the Garda Trentino Trail.

The four lakes crossed by the Garda Trentino Trail – Garda, Ledro, Tenno, and Cavedine – will offer breathtaking scenery to the athletes. The route allows them to discover the unique characteristics of the Garda region, combining the Mediterranean climate of the lake shores with the alpine environment of the peaks over two thousand meters. Points of interest along the way include the Arco Castle, the Drena Castle, and many other historical and cultural sites supported by local refuges such as Prospero Marchetti on Monte Stivo and Nino Pernici on the Ledro Alps.

The schedule for the event is as follows:
Friday, May 17:
– 12:30 pm: Start of GTT Extra from Arco Castle
– 7:00 pm: Top Athletes Presentations at Piazzale Segantini

Saturday, May 18:
– Around 12:00 pm: Arrival of the first classified of GTT Extra at Piazzale Segantini; followed by arrivals of other distances
– 5:00 pm: Awards ceremony at Piazzale Segantini for all races
