Garda’s Pedrini Cento Cup Boosts Global Sailing Profile

Promoting Garda’s image worldwide. This is what the next edition of the “Pedrini Cento Cup” will accomplish, the invitation-only regatta of the Centomiglia which, for the past four years, has been part of the global calendar of match races that imitate the America’s Cup format.

The competing nations will number ten, each represented by world-class helmsmen—skippers who come from America’s Cup crews or are Olympic medalists. In terms of television coverage, the Cento Cup will be broadcast via satellites across half the world, starting with the American “Fox TV”, the British “Sky Sports”, the Japanese “JSkyB”, and the Asian “Star TV”.

Media Impact and Participants

In Europe, it will be aired on “Stream” and the German broadcaster “Ntv”. Thanks to the Isaf portal, the Federazione Vela Mondiale (www.sailing.org), news will reach more than 2 million people daily.

The organizing team of Circolo Vela Gargnano has finalized the starting lineup. The next edition is scheduled for June 14-18.

The boats used will be the “Dolphin 81”, built by the Vittorio Moretti yard in Erbusco, in the land of Franciacorta. Among the confirmed skippers is Australian James Spithill, of “Young Australia” in the America’s Cup in Auckland.

From the Virgin Islands, Peter Holmberg will arrive, silver medalist at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, tactician for “Stars and Stripes”. Danish Sten Mohr, currently ranked number one in the world, winner on Garda in 1997 and second at the Congressional Cup in California, will lead his national team, which will also include Jesper Johansen, ranked 11th.
