Gardesana Landslides Prompt Emergency Crossings on Lake Garda

Over the past three years, the Gardesana has been affected by an endless series of landslides. Fortunately, many of these have been small in scale, but others, such as those in August 1997 and May 1998, have led to long closures of traffic. One, on February 3, 1999, even caused the death of a person, local resident Gino Avancini, 78 years old, who was swept away by a massive landslide of earth and stones while aboard his moped and heading towards Limone. The last two landslides, just a few weeks ago, occurred three days apart: the first on November 18, between Limone and Gargnano, and the second on November 21, between Toscolano and Bogliaco.
