Gardesana Road Closure Near Campione Due to Boulder Removal

All confirmed: tomorrow morning, the Gardesana will be closed again, as Bresciaoggi had previewed on Friday, at the height of Forbisicle, just south of the long tunnel behind Campione.

Road Closure and Work

The transit ban will take effect at 8:30 AM and will last until 4:30 PM on Wednesday. The complete closure is necessary to remove a boulder of about one hundred cubic meters that threatens the roadway.

The boulder will be shattered, and to prevent potential damage to the carriageway, it will need to be covered with gravel for approximately 40 meters, to facilitate the removal of the debris.

This is an challenging operation that initially appeared to require more time: even up to a week. Instead, the closure will last three days, but traffic difficulties in this area will continue until April 6.

The continuation of work that began months ago has been confirmed (originally scheduled for completion by January 11, 2001), involving the road’s closure from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM and from 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

Alternative Options and Traffic Effects

However, there is a small escape valve for those needing to head north (or go in the opposite direction): a few minutes of opening every hour.

From tomorrow until Wednesday, those wishing to reach Tremosine, Campione, or Limone will only be able to ascend the Gardesana hill up to Tignale, by taking the provincial road branching off from Gardesana shortly after Gargnano.

From Prabione, travelers can continue along the «Tignalga» route, and upon reaching Polzone di Tremosine, proceed toward Vesio, Voltino, and Limone, or take the road leading to Pieve and Campione.

There will still be inconveniences, not to mention the ongoing works (begun) for the construction of the Rocchetta tunnel.

Easter is approaching, and it remains uncertain whether passing will be possible.
