Gardesana Roads Reopen After Landslide Repairs and Traffic Resumption

Last evening, the Gardesana reopened with alternating one-way traffic, between Toscolano and Bogliaco, at Moie. Traffic was regulated by a traffic light.

By noon, the three trucks from Gasparini company of Idro had already loaded about 400 cubic meters of earth and rocks, transporting them to the Soprazocco quarries. As many remained to be moved. The work was scheduled to conclude in the evening.

The excavator had already completed cleaning the wall, while the rock climbers were cutting some trees. The Carabinieri, led by Marshal Vincenzo Andaloro, commander of the station, and the municipal police officers under Bruno Bordignon ensured security and traffic control.

Motorists only had to wait in line for about ten minutes at most. The chaos from Tuesday, despite the good efforts of law enforcement, will remain etched in the dark pages of recent history for a long time.

Resumption of traffic and future assessments

This morning, in that section, 45 bis will return to normal, with two-way traffic. The staff from Anas (including zone manager Geometra Fausto Picillo, Renzo Campani, and others) closely monitored the remediation process.

Now, the regional department will need to evaluate the appropriate actions: should they build a retaining wall? Install a net? Seal the area with other solutions?

Geologist Michele Conti conducted an appraisal, confirming the safety measures for the wall, and authorized the full reopening.

Curiosities about the landslide

A curious fact. The landslide deposited approximately 800 cubic meters on the Gardesana, compared to the 3,000 cubic meters involved in Limone.
