Gardone Riviera Urban Plan Under Fire for Environmental Concerns
The ongoing disagreements (from a distance) between the municipal administrators of Gardone Riviera and environmentalists persist. The naturalistic center “La Rocca” has initiated a petition addressed to the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Culture and Heritage, and the Prefect of Brescia. The accusation: “The PRG (Urban General Plan) still in force allows for building interventions totaling over 250,000 cubic meters, of which more than 100,000 have already been built. A reversal of course is necessary.”
Last year, the Cederna Committee stepped in, voicing concerns. Vittorio Sgarbi took a stance, arguing that the Vittoriale was being concreted, with construction all around. This sparked television investigations, debates, and controversies.
The debate on urban planning and the environment
Under the spotlight, in particular, is the village of the olive trees, with “Le Bait” in the former Montedison area and the “Traina” of Lucchini in the second row.
The city master plan, drafted by Augusto Cagnardi, approved in 1986 during the tenure of Aventino Frau (former mayor of De, now a parliamentarian from Forza Italia in Verona) and amended in 1992, outlined several interventions, which were considered excessive given the increased environmental awareness.
Alessandro Bazzani and the new administrators decided to start over, commissioning a professional firm to redesign the territory’s development, focusing on the recovery of existing structures.
