Gargnano and Alto Garda Traffic: New Gardesana Tunnel Approved

The CIPESS approved yesterday, Wednesday, June 25, the update of the Program Agreement between the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and ANAS, unlocking funds totaling 2 billion and 22 million euros. Among the financed projects is the construction of a new bypass tunnel on the Gardesana tunnel, which will stretch between km 86+567 and km 88+800, specifically in the section connecting Gargnano to Tignale, with an anticipated investment of nearly 50 million euros. This infrastructure is designed to alleviate traffic issues in the Alto Garda area by bypassing the existing tunnels that currently restrict access for modern vehicles such as buses and trucks.

The president of the Mountain Community of the Alto Garda Bresciano Park, Franceschino Risatti, expressed satisfaction with the progress made after years of waiting. The final project is expected to be available by October, and the already allocated 1.8 million euros for planning in the surrounding areas must be utilized by December. Despite the hopes placed in the new tunnel, it remains to be seen how long it will actually take to complete the work in a context where traffic management has long been neglected.
