Gargnano and Lake Garda: Research on Local History and Flora
A overview of Gargnano and a detail of the town: a glimpse of the 13th-century San Francesco cloister. All of this appears on the covers of the latest issue of the publication «Il Garda, l’ambiente, l’uomo». Now in its sixteenth issue, the magazine is printed by the Centro studi per il territorio benacense of Torri del Benaco, and the editorial team also includes the names of some well-known Gardesani scholars: Piercarlo Belotti, Domenico Fava, Antonio Foglio, Gianfranco Ligasacchi.
Trentini and veronesi (besides the aforementioned bresciani) are the other authors, who contribute annually to the creation of a volume of over 100 pages, which features monographic research on various topics. In the issue currently distributed, there is also a contribution by Piergiuseppe Pasini with an engaging title: «The history passing through cuisine». Pasini emphasizes that «the history of everyday life since the 1970s has led to many publications on local history, and numerous ethnographic museums dedicated to human activities, dwellings, household items, or clothing.
A history of everyday life that looks at food traditions to discover how people from the countryside and cities lived in previous centuries». His work analyzes documents, testimonies, and research that oscillate between the themes of nutrition and health. Another contribution is by Piercarlo Belotti, who, as a botanist this time, explores the presence of Asparagus acutifolius around Garda.
Presence of Asparagus acutifolius around Garda
This is «the pungent wild asparagus, related to the more famous spring vegetable, Asparagus officinalis. Around Garda, it can be found in some Venetian localities: Torri, Caprino, Garda, Bardolino, Cavaion, Pastrengo, and Valeggio.
On the Brescia side, it is present at Gargnano «over a limited area – 13/15 hectares – and develops along the old road that passing through Crocefisso, crosses Amburana, and opens onto the paved road to Muslone, also including the abandoned olive grove». The magazine also features contributions from other researchers: Daniele Zanini, Giuliano Sala, Pierpaolo Brugnoli, Marina Repetto Contaldo, Valeria Recchia, Pierlorenzo Vantini, Simone Fappanni, Gaia Passamonti, Gianluigi Michele, and Domenico Fava.
The latter has dealt with the extensive Gardesani bibliography.
