The Municipality of Gargnano has achieved an extraordinary result in waste management. Thanks to the introduction of the door-to-door collection system, the percentage of separate waste collection has increased from 42% to 76.6% in just a few months. This change has led to a significant reduction in the volume of mixed waste, which decreased by 63.6% in 2023 compared to the previous year.

Massimo Pedercini, director of the Urban Hygiene Service of Garda Uno, the company responsible for waste collection, emphasizes that this result was possible thanks to the active collaboration of citizens and the commitment of the municipal administration. The cooperation of all the parties involved has demonstrated that the door-to-door system works and allows for effective and sustainable recycling of materials.

Mayor Giovanni Albini expresses great satisfaction with the achieved result and praises the intelligence and common sense shown by citizens in waste separation. Hotels have also made a significant contribution to the success of the new collection system.

Despite the influence of the summer season on the average separate waste collection rate, with the month of March reaching the highest percentage (83.8%), even during the summer months, the rate never dropped below 71%. This demonstrates that the door-to-door system works effectively even during periods of high tourist influx.

In addition to the increase in separate waste collection, there has also been a significant reduction in overall waste production, amounting to 15%, equivalent to a decrease of 400 tons. This data confirms the hypothesis that many neighboring municipalities were continuously disposing of garbage bags in Gargnano’s bins.
