Gargnano’s 51st Centomiglia Sailing Race to Highlight Tourist and Regatta Strategies
The 51st edition of the Centomiglia, the famous sailing race that each year attracts hundreds of crews from around the world to Lake Garda, will take place on Saturday, September 15th. This was decided recently by the steering committees of the Circolo Vela Gargnano, the club that has been organizing Europe’s most important inland water regatta for half a century, as well as the Pro loco and the hoteliers’ association of the Brescia lakeside town, during a meeting held at the Cvg headquarters. Attending the meeting were also Gargnano’s mayor, Hon. Daniele Roscia; the municipal Tourism assessor, Marcello Festa; and the provincial assessor, Ermes Buffoli.
Postponement and New Tourism Strategies
It was decided to postpone the ‘Cento’, traditionally held on the second Saturday of September, in order to extend the tourist season along the Riviera dei Limoni. “For the first time,” said Assessor Buffoli, “the Province of Brescia will adopt a tourism plan that translates forecasts into operational actions, based on the guidelines provided by the local entities.”
The head of the Gargnano Hoteliers Association also expressed satisfaction with the meeting’s outcome: “Our goal is to become a strong entity capable of proposing interventions and strategies for the tourist development of Gargnano.”
Schedule of Sailing Competitions
Meanwhile, the Circolo Vela Gargnano announced this year’s sailing competition calendar. The first international regatta, the Trofeo Parco Alto Garda Skiffestival, is scheduled for April 7-8.
From June 13 to 17, the 13th Pedrini Centomiglia Cup will be held, a match race regatta classified as Grade 1, the highest difficulty level in the global circuit reserved for skippers competing in races modeled after the America’s Cup.
From September 9 to 16, events of the 100Week will take place, culminating with the Gorla Trophy (September 9), the 51st Centomiglia (September 15), and the European Championship of the Asso 99 class (September 2-9).
In August, the National Lottery of the Centomiglia will be held, an event promoted in collaboration with the Garda Lake Community.
