A German TV crew will be present in the Gulf of Salò this weekend to shoot a documentary on lake and sea safety during the summer period. The reportage, produced by Spiegel TV and ZDF, will focus on the tragedy that occurred three years ago when Greta Nedrotti and Umberto Garzarella lost their lives in a boating accident caused by two intoxicated German tourists. The documentary aims to raise public awareness about safe navigation practices to prevent similar incidents.
The project will also involve the victims’ families, friends who have launched a petition to equate boating manslaughter with road manslaughter, as well as the Coast Guard and the Finance Guard. Umberto’s sister, Elena, has agreed to participate in the filming to support the cause of boating safety. The short film will be broadcast on Arte Germany and Arte France, and then made available online with subtitles in various languages on “Arte Regards – insights into society,” accessible throughout Europe.
