Green Light for Gardesana Occidentale Bypass Between Gargnano and Tignale
A positive environmental compatibility ruling has been issued for the Gardesana Occidentale variant, the Gargnano–Tignale tunnel project proposed by Anas Spa. The intervention covers the km 86+567 to km 88+800 stretch between Gargnano and the Tignale junction and includes a new north-south tunnel to bypass the existing ogival tunnels D’Acli, Eutemia and Dei Ciclopi, with the Ministry of Culture providing a favorable opinion and a check on the excavation soil and rock plan.
The project is estimated at 126.2 million euros and aims to overcome the structural limits of the 1930s tunnels, which are narrow and low and currently allow alternating traffic via traffic signals. It also foresees the redevelopment of historic crossings to separate traffic directions and excludes a cycle-pedestrian path in the existing tunnel. The Lombardy regional government council had previously expressed a favorable opinion in July 2024 on a proposal by Councillor Giorgio Maione, who also indicated willingness to engage with the Province of Brescia, the Gargnano and Tignale municipalities, and the Alto Garda Bresciano Park Authority to define site management and inert-material disposal before the tender process.
