The “Green Roads” call for proposals by the Lombardy Region has been officially awarded, allocating 10 million euros for the urban redevelopment of streets and public spaces, aiming to make them more sustainable and safer. Out of 135 applications submitted, 22 municipal projects have been selected that focus on transforming areas adjacent to urban public spaces into green zones. Fundable interventions include the creation of pedestrian squares, cycling paths, and school zones, as well as solutions to improve traffic management and increase green areas. The Environment and Climate Councillor, Giorgio Maione, emphasized that these investments will contribute to improving air quality and adapting to climate change in urban areas. Given the high level of participation from Lombardy municipalities, the Region is already preparing a proposal for additional funding to allow other municipalities that did not benefit from the 2025 call to submit new projects in accordance with the “Green Roads” guidelines.
