Grole Inaugurates New Square and Elderly Housing on Holy Saturday

Saturday, April 14, the day before Easter, we will cut the ribbon for the new square in Grole.” It is the mayor, Arturo Sigurtà, who makes this promise to the residents of the Castiglione district.

History and Development of the Project

The story is one of those longstanding ones, with a project drafted under the De Padova administration, then scaled down and left on paper after the fall of the council in autumn 1997.

With the election of the new city council, both majority and opposition agreed at the first meeting that this work should be a priority for the council’s commitments.

Thus, after a long wait for regional funding from Frisl, the works officially commenced.

Progress of the Work

Now, the new square is in an advanced stage of construction: the main road layout of the district has been moved to create space between the street and the church, the square has been tiled, and work on the balustrade is nearing completion.

The adjacent green area is well underway. It is a fairly large surface with trees, grass, benches, a pedestrian walkway, play areas for local children (nearby is the nursery school), a parking lot for cars, and an ecological parking area.

Inauguration and Other Interventions

On Holy Saturday, the mayor plans to inaugurate the project, which has been eagerly anticipated and repeatedly requested by Grole’s residents.

On the same day, according to Sigurtà’s plans, the ribbon will also be cut for the mini-housing units located within the elderly care complex on via Ordanino, where the Day Center already exists and where an integrated daytime center will be established.

The apartments, also equipped with a kitchen, will accommodate autonomous elderly residents and will be allocated throughout the year: seven are already finished, and work on five others is ongoing.

Considerations on the New Regulatory Framework

We are inaugurating projects that were planned a long time ago,” explains the mayor. “The new Merloni Law regarding public procurement significantly extends the period between the decision to undertake a project and its award.

It aims to create a more transparent and fair mechanism, but undoubtedly more complex and lengthy.”
