Lombardy continues to shine in the landscape of Italian agri-food, with a significant increase in the value of its DOP (Protected Designation of Origin) products. In 2023, the value of agri-food products with Denomination of Origin reached €2.58 billion, marking a 3.3% increase compared to the previous year. Alessandro Beduschi, the Agriculture Councillor of the Lombardy Region, presented these figures during the conference on the Ismea-Qualivita report held on Monday, December 2, in Rome, highlighting how the 75 DOP and IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) foods and wines are gaining increasing appreciation in both national and international markets.

Analyzing the food sector, it is revealed that Lombardy’s agri-food industry is valued at €2.085 billion, ranking second in Italy. Among the key players, cheese stands out, with Grana Padano holding the title of the top DOP product in Italy, boasting a production value of €1.88 billion. The most significant provinces for production are Brescia and Mantova, with values of €929 million and €602 million, respectively. These results not only reflect the economic strength of the region but also a tradition that is evolving towards excellence recognized on a global scale.
