On October 31st, the historic center of Salò is preparing to celebrate a day dedicated to the tradition of Halloween, with the initiative “Trick-or-Treat” that will engage children in a journey through the streets of the city. The event is organized by merchants affiliated with Salò Promotion – Merchants’ Association, aiming to enliven the streets and promote local commerce through family involvement.

The Origins of an Ancient Tradition

The roots of the “Trick-or-Treat” tradition trace back to the time of the Celts, when the last day of October marked the end of the light year and the beginning of winter, the dark season. According to legends, during this night, mischievous fairies enjoyed playing tricks on the villagers. To avoid their pranks, the Celts would offer food as a sign of appeasement. This custom has endured through the centuries, evolving into the modern Halloween ritual, where children dress up and, reciting the phrase “Trick-or-Treat”, ask for sweets in exchange for the promise not to play tricks.

An Event for the Historic Center and Local Commerce

In Salò, more than eighty businesses will participate in the initiative, ready to welcome masked children with over 500 kg of candy available. The event serves as an opportunity to boost local commerce and provide a moment of social interaction and community, as emphasized by Andrea Maggioni, President of Salò Promotion and Coordinator of Confesercenti for Lake Garda. Maggioni highlighted the importance of such events in keeping the city streets lively and contributing to strengthening the sense of community, which remains a valuable asset in Salò.

How to Join the Celebration

For children, it will be enough to visit one of the shops, bars, or restaurants in Salò that display the appropriate sticker and say the famous phrase “Trick-or-Treat” to receive sweets and candies. This simple gesture becomes a way to engage even the youngest in the life of the city center, creating a festive atmosphere that involves all generations.
