Health Authorities Launch Zoster Vaccination Campaign for 65-Year-Olds Along Lake Garda

The 2026 shingles vaccination campaign has begun, with invitation letters being sent to residents aged 65 (born in 1961) in the riviera municipalities. The letters specify the date, time, and location of the appointment, and include provisions for individuals with specific health risk factors who require medical certification. Residents over 65 can also request vaccination by contacting public health clinics.

Herpes zoster, also known as shingles or “fire of Saint Anthony,” results from reactivation of the varicella virus, causing a vesicular rash along nerve pathways. The recommended preventive measure is the recombinant adjuvanted vaccine, administered in two doses at least one month apart, which is provided free of charge to those invited and advised for individuals with chronic illnesses or immunodeficiency.
