A 76-year-old hiker, Flavio Fiocco, was found deceased on Monte Baldo on Monday, after having gone missing on October 14 while exploring artifacts from the Great War. A missing persons report was filed by a friend on October 19, and the search efforts intensified following the discovery of an abandoned car belonging to the man’s deceased brother. Rescue teams from the Verona Alpine and Speleological Rescue conducted extensive searches in the area, supported by various local agencies. After a pause due to bad weather, the operations resumed on Monday morning, aided by information from two hunters. The teams traversed the Smuggler’s Path and descended into an old tunnel where they found personal belongings and ultimately the body of the man, who had fallen approximately 200 meters. The remains were recovered with the assistance of a Guardia di Finanza helicopter and transported to the Ferrara Sports Field in Monte Baldo. The operations concluded shortly before 3 PM, involving Carabinieri and Firefighters in the search efforts. Italian Version
