Hotel inspections on Lake Garda: irregularities and hygiene shortcomings revealed

Extraordinary inspections in hotels and vacation homes around Lake Garda have revealed significant irregularities and hygiene deficiencies, potentially leading to hefty fines for several tourist establishments. On August 29, the Carabinieri from the Desenzano del Garda Company, accompanied by local police personnel and inspectors from the Brescia Health Protection Agency, conducted inspections at 15 accommodation facilities in the municipalities of Desenzano, Sirmione, and Lonato. During these checks, it was found that eight of these establishments were not in compliance with the administrative regulations stipulated by the Tourism Code, such as the absence of the National Identification Code (CIN) and the lack of a Certified Notification of Start of Activity (SCIA).

Particularly concerning was the discovery of poor hygiene conditions in one hotel, including a bedbug infestation. The Carabinieri are also verifying the accuracy of the data regarding the guests, which could lead to further penalties for non-compliant establishments. Fines could range from €500 to €5,000 for failing to display the CIN and from €1,800 to €6,000 for not having the SCIA; while violations related to hygiene could amount to as much as €19,000.
