Hunting Event Highlights Italian Hounds at Lake District Competition
Weekend hare hunting event in the lower lake area: today and tomorrow marks the fourth Territorial Hunting Trophy n. 2, featuring several hundred hounds competing in work trials, showcasing their ability to track and chase the unlucky hare.
The competitions will take place on open lands in Bedizzole, Desenzano, Lonato, and Pozzolengo. The event is organized by the provincial section of Pro segugio, named after Luigi Zacchetti, and is part of the inter-provincial championship of Brescia, Cremona, and Mantova.
Details of the competition and participation methods
The meeting point for participants is the Milani Inn at Centenaro di Lonato, just a few steps from the border with Desenzano. The races started this morning at 6:00 am. The day is dedicated to free pairs, while tomorrow will feature free packs.
Each participating dog or group of dogs will receive a series of points from the field judges, based on their ability to locate (and consequently pursue) the hare, as well as according to the individual characteristics of each animal.
Characteristics of Italian hounds and judging criteria
The Italian segugio is characterized by high intelligence, balanced qualities, a strong attachment to its owner, and, essential qualities for hunting purposes, by great physical endurance and an excellent sense of smell.
The trial directors are Claudio Bertoletti, Roberto Cassini, Luigi Chiappa, Roberto Girelli, Lorenzo Pasini, Fiorenzo Zana. This competition has been promoted in Lonato for several years now.
Prizes and contacts
The prize pool is substantial: medals will be awarded to the top three in each heat, as well as the Territorial Hunting Trophy n. 2 going to the dog that achieves the highest overall score, even if the pair or pack does not qualify.
