Il Garda in Coro: National Children’s Choir Competition at Lake Garda
The association “Il Garda in coro”, in collaboration with the associazione corale Cima Vadritta of Malcesine, and with the sponsorship of the comitato nazionale per l’Unicef and Telefono arcobaleno, organizes the first edition of “Il Garda in coro,” a national choral competition for children’s and youth choirs in Malcesine, scheduled for June 8, 9, and 10.
The idea behind this initiative stems from a strong conviction that the future of choral singing lies in the hands of the very young. The competition aims to be an effective tool for promoting and developing choral activities among children and teenagers.
Features and Program of the Competition
The competition, which will be held every two years, will be the first entirely dedicated to amateur children’s choirs across the entire national territory. For this reason, the organizing committee is preparing thoroughly to host the numerous choirs registered for the event that will be staying in Malcesine.
Above all, the goal is to make the three days of the competition child-friendly. In this regard, alongside the main contest, concerts will be organized in neighboring towns of Malcesine, open to participating choirs, boat trips on Lake Garda, or cable car rides to Monte Baldo, as well as visits to the Scaliger Castle—all completely free for the children participating in the competition.
Inauguration and Awards
The official opening of the competition will be with the inauguration concert on Friday, June 8, featuring the Piccoli musici choir from Casazza (Bergamo), directed by Maestro Mario Mora.
The competition, dedicated to Unicef and the theme of peace worldwide, will conclude with the awards ceremony for the two categories (sacred repertoire and secular repertoire), featuring prominent figures of Italian choral music.

The initiative is supported by the Comune di Malcesine, the Azienda di promozione turistica Riviera degli olivi, the Comunità del Garda, and the Asac (Associazione per lo sviluppo delle attività corali del Veneto), which will also award a cash prize and a plaque for the best choir from the Veneto region.
Organization and Objectives
The competition, organized by the association “Il Garda in coro”, presided over by Renata Peroni, with the organizational manager being Vice President Gino Prezzi and secretary Luisa Zuanazzi, ultimately aims to promote an exchange of experiences among young people from all over Italy through the love of music and singing.
