A raid by the Carabinieri and local police led to the sanctioning of twenty individuals involved in illegal racing on the dam bridge in Gargnano on July 13, 2025. The operation was initiated after residents reported an increasing number of young tourists, primarily from Austria and Germany, gathering in the area to perform dangerous maneuvers with sports cars and high-displacement motorcycles. Law enforcement identified the offenders as they sped along the Sp9, endangering their own safety and that of other road users.
The situation had become untenable for residents of the Navazzo district, who were concerned about the high speeds and reckless driving of the participants. Local police deputy commissioner Monica Bertasio emphasized how social media has facilitated the organization of such unauthorized events, making constant monitoring necessary to ensure road safety in the area. The authorities’ operations also include checks on technical modifications to vehicles and psychophysical tests for drivers.
