Impostor Carabinieri Scam Targeting Garda Business Owners

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, proposing subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but con artists who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the regular police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

So be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, after taking the money, disappears.
