A hike in the Upper Garda region ended tragically for a 55-year-old German mountain guide, who was struck on the head by a rockfall on the morning of Saturday, May 17. The incident occurred while the man was with a climbing partner at the base of the “Dinosauri” route, beneath the Cima alle Coste wall in Dro, preparing equipment for the ascent. Around 9:30 AM, another climbing party present at the site witnessed the event and immediately alerted emergency services.
The Unified Emergency Center promptly activated the helicopter rescue, allowing for the swift intervention of medical personnel who were winched down to the scene of the accident. Two operators from the Trentino Alpine and Speleological Rescue, from the Riva del Garda and Ledro stations, assisted in the operations. The mountain guide, unconscious due to a severe head trauma, was intubated and transported in critical condition by helicopter to a medical facility.
