Increase of the Tourist Tax in Bardolino: impacts on vacation rentals

The Municipality of Bardolino has announced an adjustment to the tourist tax rates, which will take effect from January 2025. After seven years without changes, the new rates will see an increase of 50 cents for each category. In particular, the most significant hike will affect tourist rentals, with the rate rising from 1 euro to 2.50 euros per night.

Reasons for the Increase

Mayor Daniele Bertasi explained that this decision is part of a broader strategy aligned with the political direction of the Municipality. “The choice to impose a greater burden on tourist rentals,” Bertasi stated, “is motivated by the fact that these establishments enjoy greater tax advantages compared to hotel facilities and have lower burdens.” The phenomenon of short-term rentals is having a significant impact in the Gardone area, reducing the availability of properties for residents and workers seeking non-tourist rentals.

New Tourist Tax Rates

Starting next year, vacation homes will be subject to the highest daily rate. The new regulations will affect various accommodation categories:

  • Non-hotel accommodation facilities, campsites, and agritourisms: 1.50 euros per night
  • Accommodations rented exclusively for tourist purposes and furnished units for tourist use: 2.50 euros per night
  • 1, 2, and 3-star hotels: 1.50 euros per night
  • 4-star hotels: 2 euros per night
  • 5-star hotels: 2.50 euros per night

These changes aim not only to adjust the local tax system but also to ensure a balanced management of housing resources within the municipality.
