Desenzano del Garda is gearing up for a record-breaking 2024 in terms of revenue from the tourist tax, with projections indicating a total income of 2.1 million euros, representing a 7% increase compared to the previous year. The data reveals a steady growth in tourist arrivals, with 409,640 visitors and 1,172,807 overnight stays, marking increases of 6.37% and 7.52% respectively compared to 2023. The Budget Councillor, Stefano Medioli, emphasized the importance of tourism de-seasonalization and the city’s growing appeal as a destination in the Lago di Garda tourism landscape.
In particular, the vacation rental sector has seen a significant rise, contributing to 29.69% of the total tax revenue. Medioli highlighted that the income generated from the tax is allocated to tourism initiatives and the maintenance of the local historical and cultural heritage. The municipal administration initiated strategic changes in 2020 to maximize revenues, increasing the tax amount from approximately 1.15 million euros in 2019 to the current record figures.
