India-themed Events Explore Mysticism, Art, and Culture in Desenzano

A series of initiatives to reflect on the mysterious face of India and on the charm that it has always exerted on the imagination of Western culture, despite the variety of its context and the many contradictions.

The events are promoted by the Comune di Desenzano, with the Department of Culture and the organization Planet India, starting today, Saturday, and continuing until June 18, within the framework of Villa Brunati in Rivoltella del Garda.

Opening and Presentation

The program begins today at 5:30 p.m. with the inauguration by local authorities and the Indian Government, along with the presentation of the exhibition curated by Giampietro Massella and Valentino Lotti’s photographic showcase ” Enigma India“.

Tomorrow, Sunday, at 5:30 p.m., there will be a presentation of the Indian miniature collection; followed by the lecture “Religion and Myth in Indian Art” and a reading of classical Indian poems (speaker architect G. Mutti).

The following weekend

The series continues the next weekend with the focus on the “Socio-cultural panorama of today’s India“: Saturday, June 10, at 5:30 p.m., Prof. D. Dolcini will speak about “Today’s India: once upon a time a Maharaja…“; at 9 p.m., photographer Lotti will show travel slides.

On Sunday, June 11, at 5:30 p.m., volunteer associations will discuss medical-social programs, development, and the defense of human rights.

The mysticism of India in Western society

On Saturday, June 17, and Sunday, June 18, the focus will be on “Mysticism of India in Contemporary Western Society“: Saturday, at 5:30 p.m., Prof. M. Albanese will present “An Indian proposition: awareness of the everyday“; and at 9 p.m., at the Celesti Auditorium, the show “Maya, the magic of illusions” by the Indian Kathakali theatre with Western music will be performed.

Religion and art in conference. On Sunday, at 5:30 p.m., there will be a meeting with Baba Shiva Das: “Spiritual experience of an Italian in India“; and at 6:30 p.m., entertainment with representatives of Hinduism.
