International Baroque Music Course in Tremosine, Italy: Apply by July 5

The Civic Library of Tremosine (Brescia) organizes an International Course on Baroque Chamber Music for string instruments, harpsichord, and basso continuo, open to all musicians (advanced students and graduates) interested in exploring the Baroque repertoire of the 1600s and 1700s and its performance practices. Masters Michele Barchi (harpsichord) and Paolo Beschi (cello) will be the course instructors.

Course Details and Program

The course will take place from August 12 to 18, 2000, in Pieve di Tremosine, on Lake Garda in Brescia province, Italy. At the end, a concert will be held featuring the works studied during the week.

Each participant will receive a certificate of attendance.

Registration Procedures

Application must be submitted in plain paper to the Civic Library of Tremosine (Brescia), Piazza Marconi 25010 Tremosine (Bs), by July 5, 2000. The application must include personal details, residence, phone number, educational qualification, instrument, and experience with Baroque practices (use of natural gut strings, tuning at 415 Mhz, Baroque bow).

The participation fee is L. 150,000 (excluding board and lodging) and must be sent via bank draft payable to the Civic Library of Tremosine. Payment must be received together with the application. The organizers reserve the right to cancel the course, in which case the fee will be refunded.

Technical Notes

String players wishing to participate must tune the two highest strings of their instrument in natural gut and be able to play with 415 Mhz tuning. The use of a Baroque bow is recommended but does not exclude participation.
